Waterproof bags with ultra-fine screens on the bottom that are used to separate trichromes from cannabis to make bubble hash. Typically, several bags with different sized screens will be used during a cold-water extraction to strain out multiple grades of solvent-free hash.
Sometimes called “honey oil,” butane hash oil is made by pushing butane through cannabis, stripping it of its trichomes and dissolving the cannabinoids. The butane is then purged from the mixture leaving only cannabinoids behind in the form of a very pure concentrate.
A closed-loop extraction system is one in which the solvent used to separate the cannabinoids from the plant matter is saved for reuse rather than evaporated into the atmosphere. A closed loop system can be safer because flammable solvents are confined away from potential sparks. It’s also considered a more environmentally friendly and economical.
A machine that freezes and compresses carbon dioxide gas into a supercritical cold liquid state. This liquid CO2 is forced through a chamber full of cannabis leaving behind only cannabinoids, terpenes and trichomes. When that mixture is warmed the CO2 evaporates, it leaves pure cannabis oil behind.
A form of hash that is extracted by rubbing trim or flowers on an ultra-fine screen by hand and collecting the trichomes that pass through. High quality dry sift is considered a high dollar, artisanal product and is appreciated by cannabis connoisseurs for their terpene profile and ability to melt and vaporize completely.
Rosin is a concentrate extracted by a combination of heat and pressure rather than solvents. Rosin is translucent, sappy and sometimes close to shatter in consistency. If done correctly rosin can equal the flavor, potency, and yield of any solvent-based extraction products cheaper and safer.
Machines using massive pressure between two heated plates to press rosin on an industrial scale. Temperature and pressure can be adjusted to maximize cannabinoid and extraction without losing favorable terpenes. The resulting rosin is a high THC and CBD concentrate with most of the aromatic terpenes preserved.
A small tube, typically made of glass, that is used for “open blasting” small batches of cannabis oil. Cannabis is packed tightly into the tube and butane is forced through a small hole in the tube at high pressure. Honey oil drips out of the extractor tube into a collecting tray, and the butane evaporates into the surrounding air.
